Come and be a part of our Whānau

1. Pōwhiri – Traditional Welcome
Be greeted in the way of our ancestors. A chief from your group will be chosen to speak, and everyone will learn a waiata to support your chief. The pōwhiri is the coming together of two groups of people, yourselves and your passed loved ones and us and our loved ones who have passed also, a very sacred and highly important custom in our culture.

2. Performance – Stories in Motion
Haka, songs, poi, weaponry, and stick games bring our stories to life. You’ll also have the opportunity to perform a haka and poi dance.

3. Kaitahi – Sharing Kai and Stories
Enjoy food, laughter, and intimate conversations with our whānau.

4. Interactive Games and Activities
Traditional Māori games for adults and tamariki.

5. Taonga Māori – Arts and Crafts
Locally made taonga and crafts available to purchase.

Ko wai tātau?

WHO ARE WE?

Growing up as Tangata Whenua, people of the land in Aotearoa , indigenous yet disconnected — was a long, lonely road.

Like many of my other whanau (family here in Waimarama, returning home to live on my own whenua has been life-changing not only for myself and my partner but especially for my tamariki (children) and our wider whanau.

My passion for performing arts, tour guiding, and storytelling found new life here. Visitors come not just to picnic or swim but to see us, the people behind the land and the stories.

Ko au te whenua, ko te whenua ko au.

I am the land and the land is me
